Project Overview

Plantr. is a mobile app concept that allows users to get matched with the perfect plant based on their lifestyle. The app concept was based on a product design prompt challenge.

House plants are trending, but for less savvy gardeners, it's tough to know where to start. House plant buyers are faced with a slew of questions, from how to pick a plant that will match their lifestyle, aesthetic, plant habitat, maintenance, and lifespan.

RESEARCH

Goals

  • Create a digital product that users can use to pick the perfect plants for their homes.
  • The product should allow the users to gain knowledge and access to information of plants quickly.
  • The product should be easy to use for any user.

Questions and Assumptions

  • What information would a user want to know?
  • What is the best way to incorporate the experience for both beginners and expert users?
  • How can we make the app easy to use?
  • How can we help the user pick what they want?

Gathering Info

  • Researching the most popular house plants.
  • Information about house plants like cactus, aloe vera, etc.
  • Researching what's important when buying a plant — considering allergies, maintenance, difficulty, etc.
  • Focus on understanding what users would like to see and experience while using the app.

ANALYSIS

Brainstorming - Solutions

  • How might we match users with the perfect pick?
    • Allow users to answer a few questions so that the app can recommend top picks and guides based on their selection.
  • How might users get information on a specific plant?
    • Allow users to search within the app's database.
  • How will we display plant info?
    • Allow users to learn about plant names, images, maintenance, and an overall "rating" of the plant.

Survey

These are the questions that will be asked to new users to allow the app to figure out what type of plants would be best suited for their lifestyle.

  • What is your experience level?
  • What's your availability like?
  • How big is your space?
  • Do you have any allergies?
  • Do you own any house pets?

Reflections

What have I learned from this project?

  • Research and users are important — with deeper research, actual user interviews and surveys, I think I could have been able to design a better functional and usable product.
  • Endless revisions — This is something already at hand with real products. There are always updates and revisions to resolve bugs and provide better user experience. A product is never final, there will always be something to be changed.
